Factory Reset

I know how to clear (reset) the user modes but what I'd like to know is how to do a complete factory reset. Clear

EVERYTHING.

I've searched the operating manual (hard copy and PDF) to no avail. Nuthin'. How do I get this done?

Go to the third tab of the setup menu, select the reset option.

Nope, that is not a factory reset

A factory reset would also reset the AF adjustments that can be made thru the DEBUG menu, but it doesn't. Hence, this is not a true factory reset.

Check your manual on page 328 and up (330 and up for PDF), it lists all the settings and whether or not they'll get reset when using the factory reset function

Please don't call it a factory reset, fgaudet, that's misleading. Factory Reset suggests that it goes into a state as if it's fresh out of the factory. Which the Reset doesn't do.

Sorry, my bad. It looks like someone is on a bit of a crusade regarding the Reset.

So from now on, I'll simply call it a: "As Close To A Factory Reset As Currently Available On A Pentax Camera For A Normal User Reset"... ACTAFRACAOAPCFANUR for short.

Agreed, often misunderstood.
With the K-7 and the K-50 (therefore safe to assume the K-5 is the same), 'Reset' means 'Returns to default settings' (words from the manual). Also there's a separate reset for 'User' settings. In the K-50 manual for example it explains in the memo on p219 that there are 8 settings which are NOT reset and lists them. So there's no suggestion anywhere that it resets to ' fresh out of the factory'. It would need to re flash the firmware back to original to do that.

Factory reset for K70 owners

As I tried to reset my K70 to factory settings and came to the conclusion that nothing works (except for losing some settings I made earlier), i contacted Ricoh. As I know from 50 years working with Pentax camera's, Pentax is and stays a brand that sticks to their own way of thinking and handling. The solution is very simple:

Remove the main battery from the camera and leave it without power for at least 4 days. The "backup" battery will, after that time, run out of power and after installing the main battery again............ there you go! Back to the beginning and all reset to start anew! Hope that this will work with you. It did with me.
