Elven Weaponry - Wands (1)

Description

Wands are new weapons mostly designed for casters (technically most classes can use it, but wands will make use of character spell attack roll and DC for most of its actions). As weapons itself they are really weak, but all of them can be use to cast powerfull spells instead of normal attacks (Some of them have, very limited, normal combat utility when it fit the model/background).

General:

- They use Quarterstaff proficiency (and one Dagger), this should give caster classes proficiency with it. They are also Light, so anyone can dual wield it.

All of them share the "Quick Hands" passive, that allow to equip wands using a bonus action.

Wands use the melee weapon slot, but they can be customize to use the ranged weapon slot using theElven Smithing Kit. Using them on the ranged weapon slots have some issues, and that why I left it as a totally optional feature. See Customization section bellow for full details. Ranged is 99% fixed from 1.3 and you can use ranged wands without issues.

-Channel: As mentioned, normal attacks from wands are lame (they are just slim sticks XD). Instead you'll be using the channel mechanios for combat. Channel are cantrips (with normal cantrip scaling) and are different for each wand.

All Channel cantrips can be upcast, just like normal spells. (Note that due UI limitations "Channel (upcast)" is a different action icon. It's still the same spell as the normal Channel, but upgrade).
Upcast level have a limit on wands, that is tied to rarity. Common wands can upcast up to level 2, Uncommon up to 3, Rare up to 4, Very Rare up to 5 and Legendary up to 6 (no cap). You can still use a highter level spell slot than the cap, but it will grant no additional benefits over the cap level (A warning have been added to this levels spells tooltips).

-Channel (Offhand): When equipping a wand offhand, it'll give access to Channel (Offhand) instead of normal Channel. Channel (Offhand) are weak cantrips (still with cantrip scaling) that can't be upcast, but they cost a bonus action.

-Most wands will also give access to a free short/long rest limited spell, similar to how normal weapon actions works.

-From 1.1 there's also two new feats added to the feat list that affect wand spells.

Location

They can be found at Traders, looted in the world or as quest rewards. Note that with the exception of the (Common) Fire Wand, all wands sold at traders are still unique an can only be bought one time. There's also an optional file that will place all of them in a crate on the tutorial chest.

The list of locations are:

Customization

Wands can be change to use the ranged weapon slot instead of the melee weapons slot. There's two issues with that:

-Normal attacks will be totally useless, as they'll have both long range and too close penalties. Not that they are really usefull on the firts place so this one is really minor.

Fixed from 1.3,wands will use channel instead of ranged attacks. Some passives on the wands that have certain combat capabilities have been removed on the ranged versions.

-Using a wand and a handcrossbow will break the animation of both, and also will break handcrossbow attacks if it's offhand. So don't use it with handcrossbow (well you can, your game won't break or anything like that, but the results will be weird).

To customize wands download theElven Weaponry Smithing Kit.

Combine the crafting tool with any melee wand to make it ranged, do it with a ranged wand to make it melee.

Unequip your wand before combine it, the game will try to return your wand to the previous slot after combining and when it can't it does weird things.

Fixed from 1.3

Installation

BG3 Mod Manageris recommended.

Use either the Vortex Mod Manager or the BG3 Mod Manager and install this mod.

Make sure you deploy your mods if using Vortex or export the mod list if using BG3 Mod Manager.

ForUpdatejust overwrite old version pak with the new one. If you want to be 100% sure everything goes smoothly do the following:
-Remove equiped items from this mod from your characters (you can leave them in the inventory, no need to store them), save your game and exit.
-Install the new version (just overwrite old one).
-Load, you can reequip your items as you wish.
As I said, nothing of this should be needed, I update like hundreds of times while testing just overwritten the old file. But the above proccess should be the correct one to update items mods.

Uninstallationisn't support after patch 5. You can try to use a mod that create a temporary container, liketutorial chest summoning. Place items in it and wait for it to vanish into the void with them. If you have a feat from the mod on any character, respect them to get rid of it. Save, exist and remove the mod. There's also several tutorials on nexus that gives methods that may work. Remember to deploy/export after uninstalling mods.

Optional

The Remove ASI Optional File remove the one point ASI bonus from the new feats, leaving only the passives. Load after Main File.

If you want the items to appear in the tutorial chest use:Elven Weaponry - Tutorial Chest. Load it after all main files from weaponry series.

Alternatively if you want to spam them with cheat engine or some other tool theUUID codesare:

Know Issues

-Some Offhand Channel effects can look weird, as the game doesn't really have animations for offhand spells.

-Wands doesn't have the same squeleton of other weapons, coat and other applied VFX on them may look weird (out of place).

-If you dual wield it, either two wands or a wand an a weapon. Toggle off the auto dual wield attack. Having it toggle on won't break anything, but can make some channel animations look weird.

-

Making them ranged have some particular issues, see Customization.

Mostly fixed from 1.3, only dual wielding them with HandXbows will cause issues.
